Hello, traveller! ✨ Welcome back!
With the launch of this website, I can finally share my journey, my projects, and the challenges I’ve faced so far. And what better way to begin than by telling you about Amethyst?
For those unfamiliar with it, Amethyst is a webtoon published on WEBTOON France, written by me and illustrated by Elena Toma (Tonkipappero). It’s a story of angels, demons, and half-bloods, set in an “unusual” fantasy world — one where the Apocalypse isn’t some future event that people warn is coming… but a cataclysm that has already happened, leaving behind the ashes upon which the story now unfolds.
Amethyst is a peculiar project, originally conceived as a manga and later converted into a webtoon. Along the way, many things changed compared to the original idea, but I believe its core identity endured, even through that difficult transformation. The heart of the story — the emotions of the two co-protagonists, Elias and Kihara — was perhaps the hardest element to adapt, as the webtoon format doesn’t leave much room for introspection and reflection. There’s little time to stop and think, when each episode needs a fresh challenge to end in a cliffhanger! 😆
Creating this webtoon was a monumental endeavour, for many reasons. First of all, the webtoon format forces you to think very differently than when you’re “just writing”: episodes are short, packed with events, often moving at a frantic pace. While writing the “script” that would later be turned into the storyboard, you need to picture how much space each line of dialogue will take in panel form — and keep in mind the TITANIC workload awaiting the poor artist (Tonkipappero in this case), who’ll have to actually bring it all to life.
And all of this on a weekly deadline!
Picture this: one day you’re writing the script for a chapter; another, you’re reviewing the storyboard from the previous week’s script; meanwhile, you’re helping with flat colouring on the pages, and already thinking about what you’ll need to write for next week’s episode. Past, present, and future constantly overlapping!
Still, I must say — it was incredibly formative! As a long-winded writer who usually works at a slow and gradual pace, I had to force myself to compress into very short episodes events that I’d normally spread across many pages. And what I learned from that effort will surely help me in whatever comes next.
I had already planned the full story for Elias and Kihara. Amethyst’s webtoon stopped at season 1, but all the notes for what was meant to become season 2 (and beyond) are still carefully preserved, waiting for their moment. I don’t know in what form they’ll return, but when the time comes, I’ll be ready to give Amethyst the continuation it deserves — one that might even reach a wider audience beyond the French-speaking world.
But before that… there’s something else I’m working on! And for now, I’ll say no more! 👀
